Cricket isn’t the simplest of games to master, either as a player, and umpire or indeed a scorer. A cricket scorer needs to know what’s going on on the field of play and making sense of the umpire signals to the scorer is crucial. For a new scorer this isn’t always easy so we’ve reproduced here an aide memoir for new cricket scorers, showing what each of the key umpire signals mean.
Scorers must follow the umpires instruction. If the umpire doesn’t signal something then you can’t for example presume he just forgot to signal and put down the bye in the score book rather than putting runs to the batsman. Always follow the umpire signals!
